UN finds US likely responsible for Iran school strike killing 120 children

Filed · 3 publisher pages · upstream origin unresolved

UN experts say there are reasonable grounds to believe the U.S. committed war crimes in strikes that killed 120 children in an Iranian school and a sports complex. The findings, from a UN mission, could lead to legal action in international courts.

The UN mission, chaired by Bangladeshi jurist Sara Hossain, found the school in Minab was a civilian target and that the attack was indiscriminate. The report also accused Iranian authorities of crimes against humanity during protests.

The U.S. has denied responsibility for the Lamerd strike and dismissed the UN report as 'nonsense'. The mission's findings could influence international legal proceedings, though the U.S. remains uncooperative.

The UN report estimates the death toll from the crackdown in Iran is higher than official figures, with at least 3,038 deaths and 25,000 injuries reported.
