U.S. and China agreed to cut tariffs on $30 billion of non-sensitive goods and establish a channel for AI-related incidents following a three-day summit between President Trump and President Xi Jinping.
The agreement includes a mutual reduction in tariffs on goods such as agricultural products and holiday decorations, as well as a new communication mechanism for AI safety issues. Both sides also agreed to continue military crisis communications and work on resolving rare earths supply concerns.
The summit marked a step toward greater cooperation, with both nations pledging to expand dialogue on AI safety and military communication. The U.S. and China also agreed to extend a trade truce and work on resolving issues related to rare earths and fentanyl-related criminal activity.
The two nations will meet again in November and December, with further discussions on trade, AI, and international issues such as the Strait of Hormuz.
