Trump to sign Russia sanctions bill as House passes it

Filed · 3 publisher pages · upstream origin unresolved

U.S. President Donald Trump is set to sign a bipartisan Russia sanctions bill passed by the House of Representatives, which would allow him to impose up to 100% tariffs on countries buying Russian oil and gas. The bill, named after late Sen. Lindsey Graham, was approved by the House 262-159 on Sept. 16 and is expected to be signed by Trump soon.

The legislation, which targets the five largest buyers of Russian energy, includes China, India, and Turkey among the countries at risk of tariffs. It also imposes sanctions on Russian officials, banks, and entities supporting Moscow's defense-industrial base. The bill was approved by the Senate in early August, less than a month after Graham's death.

The bill is seen as a major victory for Ukraine, with President Zelensky urging U.S. lawmakers to pass it and call for strong actions from Trump. The legislation is expected to increase economic pressure on Russia, though the Kremlin has warned it would make efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict more difficult.
