Trump sends envoys to Kyiv and Moscow to end Ukraine-Russia war

Filed · 3 publisher pages · upstream origin unresolved

U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are set to travel to Kyiv and Moscow this weekend as part of Washington's diplomatic push to end the war. The visit follows reports that Ukrainian forces were ordered to halt fighting from Sept 5-8, though no official ceasefire has been announced.

Trump confirmed the envoys' trip, stating they are bringing a 'proposal to end the war' and may succeed in resolving the conflict. Zelensky said Ukraine will avoid aerial strikes during the visit for the safety of U.S. negotiators, and urged Russia to do the same.

Russian forces struck the headquarters of Ukraine's SBU security services, injuring at least 12 people, raising concerns about potential targets for future attacks. The conflict, now in its fourth year, has cost Russia an estimated 450,000 lives and Ukraine between 125,000 and 150,000.
