Trump envoys to visit Kyiv and Moscow as Ukraine seeks ceasefire

Filed · 3 publisher pages · upstream origin unresolved

U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will visit Kyiv and Moscow this weekend as part of efforts to end the war. The visit follows a reported Ukrainian request for a temporary ceasefire from Sept. 5-8.

Zelensky confirmed the envoys will meet with Russian officials in Moscow on Saturday and then in Kyiv on Sunday. Trump said the envoys are bringing a proposal to end the conflict. Zelensky also pledged to ensure Russian airspace is safe during the visit.

Ukraine's military has been ordered to halt fighting for four days, though no formal ceasefire has been announced. Russia has responded with drone attacks, with sirens sounding in Kyiv as the Air Force warned of incoming drones.

Russia's state news agency Tass reported the envoys were expected to arrive in Moscow and then Kyiv on 5-6 September. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said they would inform the public when contacts take place.
