Trump approves Russian diesel supply to U.S. markets amid Ukraine criticism

Filed · 3 publisher pages · upstream origin unresolved

U.S. President Donald Trump approved a six-month supply of Russian diesel to U.S. and global markets, with 300,000 tons to be delivered immediately. The move aims to lower fuel prices before the midterm elections.

Trump announced the deal during a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who confirmed Russia's willingness to supply oil and petroleum products. The U.S. Treasury issued a temporary license allowing the supply of Russian diesel to global markets through April 2027.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the decision, calling it a betrayal of Ukraine and a weak move that would enable Russia to fund its war. Zelenskyy urged for a strong dialogue with Russia to secure a lasting ceasefire.

Zelensky also noted that Ukraine is ready to reciprocate any Russian steps toward de-escalation, including halting strikes on Russian refineries if Moscow stops attacking Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
