Sudan's military is accused of a drone strike that killed 153 people in Abyei market, a disputed border region between Sudan and South Sudan. The attack, which occurred on Monday, targeted a fuel depot and caused significant casualties and property damage.
The Abyei administration's caretaker information minister, Yohanna Akol Ngor, blamed Sudan's military for the attack, stating it hit a market near Abyei town. The strike, which occurred around 11am, is believed to have been launched from a military-held area, with the military not responding to requests for comment.
South Sudan's Foreign Ministry has condemned the attack, calling for diplomatic resolution of the long-standing dispute over Abyei's status. The region, which remains unresolved since South Sudan's independence in 2011, has seen ongoing conflict between Sudan's military and paramilitary forces, with humanitarian concerns growing as the war continues.
