Student fires himself in Turkey school, 11 wounded

Filed · 3 publisher pages · upstream origin unresolved

A student fired himself in a high school in western Turkey, wounding 11 people, including two in critical condition. The attack occurred near the Inci Uzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Turgutlu, Manisa province.

The suspect, identified as a student, was arrested and their family members, including parents and grandfather, were detained for owning the weapon used in the attack. Authorities are investigating the motive, including potential bullying and the circumstances surrounding the gun's acquisition.

The attack follows two previous school shootings in April 2026 that led to new security measures, including tighter gun controls, for the 2026-27 academic year. Officials are conducting inspections to address the concerns raised by the recent incident.
