Two mass shootings in South Africa killed 27 people within hours of each other, raising concerns about escalating gun violence in the country. The attacks occurred in Johannesburg and Cape Town, with police investigating the motives behind the shootings.
In Johannesburg, 17 people were killed and 15 injured when gunmen armed with AK-47s opened fire at a bar in Wedela township. A separate shooting in Lwandle, near Cape Town, killed 10 people and injured 11, with multiple suspects still at large.
The shootings come days after a mass shooting in Durban killed 11 people, including a pregnant woman, and follow a series of killings involving women, which have heightened fears of organized crime and gang violence in the region.
Police have not made any arrests in either incident and are searching for suspects in both cases, with officials warning of the ongoing threat posed by illegal firearms and organized crime in South Africa.
