The assault began just after midnight on Aug. 20, with Russia launching 44 cruise missiles, two Banderol missiles, 168 Shahed‑type drones and additional ballistic and Zircon missiles. Ukrainian forces intercepted 39 cruise missiles, both Banderols and 145 drones, while strikes damaged a children’s hospital, a kindergarten, food warehouses and 28 other sites across the capital.
