Russia, Ukraine, and the U.S. have agreed to resume trilateral talks in November, following a meeting in St. Petersburg where Russia released an American prisoner. The talks, planned to begin on November 10, will focus on post-conflict security arrangements between Russia and Ukraine.
The release of Stephen Hubbard, a U.S. citizen detained by Russia, was announced during talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff. Hubbard, accused of being a mercenary, was released without any exchange, a move seen as a goodwill gesture to the Trump administration.
The talks are expected to address a potential peace deal between Russia and Ukraine, with Putin's foreign affairs adviser suggesting discussions on restoring bilateral ties between Washington and Moscow. However, the Kremlin has stated that Witkoff's proposals lack substance for a meaningful peace settlement.
