Putin's party secures record majority in Russia's election

Filed · 3 publisher pages · upstream origin unresolved

Putin's United Russia party secured a record 58% of the vote in Russia's parliamentary election, securing a supermajority in the State Duma. The results, which came amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, show continued dominance for the ruling party.

The election, the first since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, saw United Russia win 355 of the Duma's 450 seats, with the only anti-war party, Yabloko, failing to gain national representation. The Communist Party and LDPR also secured seats.

The election results could influence future military actions, with Ukraine warning of potential new mobilization waves. Russia's military is seeking to replenish forces, with Ukrainian officials estimating the need for around 300,000 additional personnel in 2026 and 2027.

The Kremlin has denied reports of a potential mobilization, but experts suggest the process may be fragmented, combining reservist pressure and contract recruitment without a formal announcement.
