Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed a summit with U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping to negotiate an end to the Ukraine conflict, according to the Wall Street Journal. The meeting is set to occur next month and could take place during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in November.
The proposed summit follows Trump's deal to buy Russian diesel and a waiver of sanctions on Moscow, which have drawn criticism from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Zelenskyy has warned that these moves would embolden Putin and prolong the war.
The White House has not confirmed the summit, but a senior U.S. official said Trump could be receptive to the idea. The Kremlin has not yet commented on the potential meeting.
Putin's proposal comes amid warming ties between Trump and Putin, particularly after the U.S. President announced a deal to buy Russian diesel and signed an order waiving key sanctions on Moscow.
