A mass shooting at an Oregon elementary school has killed four people, including three children and a teacher, and left two others with critical injuries. The incident, which occurred in Bend, highlights the ongoing crisis of school violence in the United States.
The shooter entered Silver Rail Elementary School by firing through locked doors, according to police. The victims included children aged 5, 8 and 11, and one teacher. A 7-year-old student and a 54-year-old teacher were taken to hospital with critical injuries.
Oregon Governor Tina Kotek praised the community member who intervened to stop the shooter, stating that no community should live through such a day. Police confirmed the suspect was dead after being shot by a bystander.
The incident has reignited debates over gun control in the United States, with advocates arguing for measures such as arming teachers to prevent future attacks.
