A 16-year-old shooter killed three children and a teacher at an Oregon elementary school before being killed by a bystander. The attack left another child and teacher critically injured.
The suspect, a Bend resident, forced his way into the school by shooting at locked doors and was shot by a community member who pursued him into the building. The shooter used a pump-action shotgun purchased by his mother.
The incident has sparked calls for gun control as the U.S. continues to grapple with high rates of gun violence, including the deadliest school shooting in history at Virginia Tech in 2007.
