A 16-year-old shooter killed 4 at an Oregon elementary school before being stopped by a community member and an armed father. The suspect, identified as Griffin J. John II, was armed with a shotgun and fired 15 rounds in a special-needs classroom before being shot dead.
The shooter entered Silver Rail Elementary School through locked doors and killed a teacher and three children aged 5, 8 and 11. A 7-year-old student and another teacher were injured. The community member who intervened was not identified, while a 36-year-old father of two students fatally shot the suspect before police arrived.
Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz said the incident highlights the need for active shooter training, which all officers completed in August. The shooting has reignited debates over gun control in the U.S., with advocates pushing for measures like arming teachers to prevent future attacks.
