Nigeria reports its first Ebola case as the outbreak spreads across Africa, with over 9,000 confirmed cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The patient, a woman who arrived from Uganda, is in isolation and receiving treatment.
The woman, who tested positive for the virus, began showing symptoms after arriving in Abuja from Uganda. Health officials have identified 44 contacts, including healthcare workers, and are tracing potential spread. The patient was admitted to a private hospital on October 11.
Nigeria, which previously contained Ebola in 2014, has established systems to respond to the new case. Officials warn that misinformation and funding shortfalls could fuel further spread within the region.
Uganda, which was declared Ebola-free in August, says it has no active cases and that travel through Uganda does not establish infection there.
