A gunman opened fire in a downtown Minneapolis apartment building on Sept 2, killing two people and wounding three police officers before the suspect died. One victim died at the scene and four were taken to hospital, where a second fatality occurred. The incident prompted a rapid response from local and federal law‑enforcement agencies.
Police spokesman Garrett Parten said officers arrived minutes after 4:30 pm local time, finding the victims inside the high‑rise near the Minneapolis Convention Center. Two officers were shot, one in the leg and another undergoing surgery, while the third sustained unspecified injuries. All three were listed in stable condition at Hennepin County Medical Center.
Governor Tim Walz and FBI Director Kash Patel announced that state and federal agents were on the ground assisting the investigation, while officials held a press conference later in the evening. No motive has been disclosed and the circumstances of the shooter’s death remain unclear. The tragedy follows recent mass shootings in Chicago, Trenton and Waynesboro, Virginia.
