U.S. First Lady Melania Trump brokered a ceasefire in the Russian-occupied Ukrainian city of Oleshky, allowing 2,000 civilians to evacuate and humanitarian aid to reach the trapped population. The truce, agreed by both Russia and Ukraine, begins October 29, following a humanitarian crisis marked by blocked aid and military attacks.
Trump secured the ceasefire through direct negotiations with Russian and Ukrainian leaders, facilitating access for aid and evacuation. The agreement includes demining roads, delivering medical supplies, and allowing civilians to leave the city. Russia confirmed the deal, halting fire ahead of the scheduled ceasefire start.
The ceasefire marks a critical step in easing the humanitarian crisis in Oleshky, where residents face starvation, lack of medical care, and constant military threats. The deal underscores the role of U.S. diplomatic efforts in resolving conflicts, though challenges remain in ensuring sustained aid and safe evacuations for the remaining 2,000 civilians.
