U.S. First Lady Melania Trump has brokered a localized ceasefire in Oleshky, a Russian-occupied city in Ukraine, to enable humanitarian aid and civilian evacuation. The agreement, confirmed by Ukrainian officials, comes as the city faces a dire humanitarian crisis with limited access to essential supplies.
The ceasefire, set to begin on October 27, involves Russia and Ukraine agreeing to halt military action in Oleshky to allow aid delivery and safe evacuation of civilians. Ukrainian human rights ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets confirmed the deal, noting the city's population has dwindled to around 2,000, with 35 children remaining.
Ukraine's General Staff confirmed the operation will proceed under the guidance of the country's commander-in-chief, with both sides working to ensure the safety of residents and the delivery of vital supplies. A joint effort by civilian leaders from both nations will assess the needs of Oleshky's residents and coordinate their evacuation.
