A magnitude-7 earthquake struck Tibet, killing at least 16 people and damaging hundreds of homes. The quake hit Nagqu region on Thursday, causing widespread disruption and emergency responses.
The earthquake occurred at 10:33pm local time, with its epicenter 119 miles east-north-east of Nagqu. At least seven aftershocks were recorded, with the largest at 5.2 magnitude.
Authorities have deployed rescue teams and emergency resources, including 1,000 prefabricated housing units and 3,000 tents, to support affected residents. The region's high altitude and challenging terrain complicate recovery efforts.
Disruptions to communication and transportation have been reported, with local authorities closing a section of national highway 317 to allow emergency vehicles through.
