Kyiv's National Academy of Sciences building was struck by a Russian drone, killing one person and injuring 24 others, including three children, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The attack occurred in the city center on Sept. 28, as Russian drone strikes continued throughout the day.
The building, located near important landmarks including the Taras Shevchenko Ukrainian National University and the German embassy, was set ablaze, with videos showing people clinging to windows as smoke poured from the structure. Firefighters helped evacuate residents through windows as a black smoke plume billowed from the building.
Ukrainian forces under the 3rd Army Corps have liberated three more villages in northern Donetsk Oblast, marking 51 square kilometers of new territory, as part of Operation Vivaldi. The operation has resulted in over 2,000 Russian losses and over 250 prisoners, according to corps commander Brigadier-General Andrii Biletskyi.
