Kenya confirmed its first Ebola case after a man died in Nairobi following a return from the Democratic Republic of Congo. The man, who had lived in DRC for seven years, died after being treated there and traveling to Uganda before flying to Kenya.
The man, who tested positive for Ebola, died after being isolated in Nairobi. Authorities have identified 28 contacts, including family members and healthcare workers, and are tracing 23 passengers and four crew members from his flight.
Kenya's health minister said the man's death is a critical moment in the ongoing outbreak, which has spread to seven provinces in DRC. The World Health Organization warned the epidemic is far from over and could surpass the 2014-2016 West Africa outbreak in severity.
