Seven people were killed and 34 injured in a shooting at a church funeral in Jordan's Karak governorate, according to officials. The attack, which occurred on Friday, involved masked gunmen who opened fire during a service at the Hamoud Church.
The attackers, described as extremists, are believed to have entered the church from a vehicle and fired before fleeing. CCTV footage shows three gunmen approaching the church and firing as they left. The attack left dozens of people wounded and caused widespread panic among attendees.
King Abdullah II has vowed to confront the attackers with the harshest penalties, emphasizing the need for national unity. Security forces are hunting the suspects, and the incident has sparked anger among residents, particularly those affected by the attack.
The attack follows a similar incident in 2016 where gunmen attacked a Crusader castle in Karak, killing 10 people. Jordan has since increased security measures in the region, with heightened vigilance expected in the coming days.
