Germany supplies Kyiv with interceptors, air defense missiles in $1.5 billion aid package

Filed · 3 publisher pages · upstream origin unresolved

Germany announced a $1.46 billion aid package for Ukraine, including interceptor drones and air defense missiles. The package, worth over €1.3 billion, includes €1 billion in military aid and €350 million for energy sector repairs. The aid aims to counter Russian drone attacks and support Ukraine's energy infrastructure ahead of winter.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz visited Kyiv, where he pledged military and financial aid. Merz emphasized the importance of stopping Russian attacks on Ukrainian civilians and highlighted joint development of technologies to strengthen security for both Germany and Ukraine. The visit coincided with Russian strikes on Kyiv bridges and military buildings.

The aid package includes thousands of interceptor drones designed to counter Russian jet-powered drones and thousands of missiles for German-made IRIS-T air defense systems. The collaboration between German and Ukrainian companies aims to enhance security and counter evolving threats. Russia continues to target Ukrainian infrastructure, including bridges and energy facilities, with no clear resolution in sight.
