Four soldiers died and 39 were injured in a fast-moving fire at a Canadian military base in Alberta, according to official reports. The fire, which spread a kilometre in 36 seconds, disrupted training and caused significant damage.
The fire broke out during high-intensity combat training at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright, where soldiers were practicing attacks on simulated enemy positions. Strong winds, up to 96km/h, fueled the blaze, which was initially contained but then rapidly spread toward the soldiers.
Prime Minister Mark Carney described the incident as one of the worst peacetime tragedies for Canada’s military. Officials are investigating the cause, with no evidence of terrorist activity, and are coordinating with healthcare providers to manage the influx of injured patients.
