Family sues Trump administration over ICE shooting of US citizen

Filed · 3 publisher pages · upstream origin unresolved

Family of US citizen Renee Good has filed two lawsuits against Trump administration officials over her death at the hands of an ICE agent during a Minneapolis immigration sweep. The incident, which occurred in January 2025, has led to widespread protests and calls for accountability.

The lawsuits, filed by Good's partner Becca Good and brother Brent Ganger, allege negligence and civil rights violations by Trump administration officials, including White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. The cases seek damages and a jury trial, marking the first major legal action against the administration over its immigration crackdowns.

Minnesota has sued the Trump administration to gain access to evidence from the shooting scenes, but investigations have stalled after the Justice Department halted cooperation with local law enforcement. The Department of Homeland Security has defended the conduct of the involved ICE agents as justified uses of force in dangerous situations.

The deaths of Good and another American nurse, Alex Pretti, have intensified protests against the Trump administration's immigration policies, leading to the withdrawal of hundreds of federal agents from Minneapolis and the removal of the operation's chief official, Greg Bovino, from his post.
