DHS data breach reveals details of 40,000 employees

Filed · 3 publisher pages · upstream origin possible syndication

DHS data breach reveals details of 40,000 employees. The leak includes names, phone numbers and email addresses of personnel across several US security agencies. This follows recent data breaches involving the FBI and the Defense Department.

The data was obtained by an entity calling itself 'Department of Peace' and provided to the nonprofit group Distributed Denial of Secrets. The group says the data was harvested from the Okta sign-on service used by DHS. Okta claims its systems are secure and there is no evidence of compromise.

The breach raises concerns about the security of sensitive information and the potential for further harm. The Department of Peace claims the data was released to limit further harm by DHS and support efforts in that direction. The leak also reveals nonpublic data about internal DHS organization charts and previously undisclosed programs or operations.
