Alleged intimidation of PDP candidates by APC in Ebonyi State has intensified as APC officials allegedly targeted PDP members, including a state governorship candidate and a women leader, with threats and detentions. The APC is accused of suppressing opposition parties and restricting campaigning in the state ahead of 2027 elections.
Austin Nwachukwu, PDP state chairperson, alleges that APC officials ordered local government chairmen to 'deal mercilessly' with PDP members, leading to detentions, attacks, and the sealing of a PDP leader's hotel. Ten people were injured in alleged attacks on party members, with some detained since October.
The APC has denied allegations of intimidation, with officials claiming the political environment remains peaceful ahead of 2027 elections. However, the PDP leader warns of ongoing suppression, highlighting concerns about the APC's handling of opposition parties in states under its control.
